During the transformative stages of ones's 50s and 60s, marked by shifts in hormones and emotions, the importance of self care cannot be overstated.

Achieving emotional well being becomes a priority. It did for me. Sufficient restful sleep, nourishing food and drink, and minimizing or eliminating alcohol intake all contribute significantly to both your health and skin.

But what role do essential oils play in this journey?

This piqued my curiosity.

Here is some of what I've learned.

Some research as shown, certain essential oils, such as lavender, chamomile, bergamot, and frankincense, offer potential solutions for managing stress, anxiety and mood swings. Their therapeutic properties may prove invaluable during this stage of life.

SKINCARE AMD ANTI AGING

We wonder how to look and feel our best, have healthy glow as we age by using natural means.

Oils like rose hip, frankincense, geranium and carrot seed are known for promoting skin elasticity, reducing the appearance of fine lines, and improving overall skin texture. This is due to the antioxidant and anti inflammatory and anti-aging properties that can benefit our mature skin.

JOINT AND MUSCLE SUPPORT

Discomfort can become more common as women age. Joint and muscle discomfort can be helped with use of oils like peppermint, ginger, and eucalyptus. These may help provide relief when used in massage blends or added to baths.

SLEEP AID

Disturbed sleep can become more frequent with age. Essential oils like lavender and chamomile are known for their calming effects and may help improve sleep quality when sed in a diffuser or added to a pre bedtime routine.

MENTAL CLARITY AND FOCUS

Women managing busy work schedules, family life and other challenges can enhance mental clarity, concentration, and memory with essential oils like rosemary peppermint, and lemon.

HOLISTIC WELLNESS

Essential oils complement holistic wellness practices like yoga, meditation, tai chi, and mindfulness.

I find it truly beautiful how nature provides us with what we need for well being as we age, and one of these ways is through the use of essential oils.

Note: essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts and should be used with caution especially for individuals with sensitive skin, allergies or certain medical contains.

Tips for using essential oils safely:

Patch Test: Before using a new essential oil perform a patch test on a small are of skin to check for any adverse reactions.

Consultation: If you have any underlying health conditions or are taking medications, it is a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional before using essential oils.

Moderation: Use essential oils in moderation to avoid overexposure. More is not necessarily better.

Avoid Ingestion: It's best to avoid ingestion essential oils, as they are highly concentrated and can be toxic if consumed inappropriately.

By following guidelines and considering individual needs and sensitivities, women over the age of 50 can incorporate essential oils into their wellness routines to potentially support their physical and emotional well being.
