You Were Never Meant to Earn Your Worth: a Midlife Remembering

Curious on Life

Being worthy is not something you earn.

It isn’t handed to you after you’ve done enough, healed enough, forgiven enough, produced enough, or finally become the version you imagined you should be by now.

Worthiness is quieter than that. It lives underneath all the effort.

So many women I meet in midlife, especially in our 60s, 70s, and beyond, are still carrying an old, heavy belief that says:

When I fix this part of myself… then I will feel worthy.

But midlife is not an upgrade project. It is a remembering.

You were never unworthy because you struggled.

You were never unworthy because you stayed too long, loved too much, drank to cope, lost your way, or had to begin again.

You were surviving.

You were learning.

You were becoming.

Worthiness does not arrive when your life finally looks calm on the outside. It arrives when you stop arguing with who you are on the inside.

This season of life asks something different of us.

More self-trust.

Less fixing. More listening.

For many women, worthiness is tangled up with usefulness.

If I am needed, I belong.

If I am productive, I matter. If I carry everyone else, I am safe.

But what happens when the body slows down?

When the roles shift?

When the noise fades?

What remains is not emptiness.

What remains is you.

Midlife is not a collapse of purpose. It is a return to presence.

You do not have to justify your place in the world anymore.

You don't have to explain your choices.

You do not have to shrink your tenderness or your truth to keep others comfortable.

Your worth does not depend on your past mistakes.

.It does not depend on how brave you were.

It does not depend on how well you held everything together.

It depends on one simple truth:

You are here.

And that is enough.

This is not self-indulgence. It is self-honoring.

You are not behind. You are not late. You are not starting over from nothing.

You are unfolding from lived experience.

And worthiness is not waiting for you at the end of the journey. It has been walking beside you the entire time.

Thank you for reading.

with love,

Rebecca
