How Alcohol Stifles Our Passion and Desire

Have you ever felt a spark inside of you—a quiet but undeniable whisper calling you toward something greater? That whisper is desire. It is passion. It is the life force that connects us to something beyond ourselves, the same energy that fuels the sun, moves the tides, and grows the trees.
We are all connected, which means you, too, are part of this creative force. You are not separate from it. Your dreams and desires exist for a reason—they are meant for you, and only you, to bring into reality. And the most beautiful part? You already have everything within you to make them happen.
But here’s where so many of us get lost.
Alcohol dims that fire. It dulls the very energy that allows us to see the beauty in everything, to recognize our own power, to trust in the magic of creation. Instead of fueling passion, alcohol suffocates it. Instead of expanding our vision, it shrinks our possibilities. It keeps us stuck in fear, in hesitation, in self-doubt. I hadn't connected how my nightly wine pours were numbing not just uncomfortable feelings, but all the creative energy was also diminishing.
Passion and desire thrive on clarity. They require a sharp mind, an open heart, and a willingness to step boldly into the unknown.
When we remove the fog of alcohol, we allow ourselves to dream freely. To think powerfully. To create fearlessly.
Stepping into my fifties sparked a yearning for something more—creatively. Like many people, I had juggled responsibilities at home and work for decades, pushing my artistic dreams aside. However, turning fifty became a turning point, igniting a quest to reconnect with my creative self.
The Turning Point, reclaiming my creative spirit.
Fifty is a significant age that brings both challenges and newfound freedoms. Instead of stowing away my dreams, I decided to open the door to my creative interests. Acknowledging that it is never too late to pursue my passions reignited a spark within me.
During this reflection, I not only questioned how much I was drinking, I revisited painting—I had neglected it for decades. As I dusted off my brushes and canvases, excitement surged through me. The simple act of splashing colors on canvas became my escape once more.. The process was therapeutic, allowing me to express emotions I had tucked away.
Discovering new passions
Tapping into my creativity revealed unexpected treasures, and surprisingly so did the next decade.
Now, in my 6th decade of life, waking each day and stiving to be curious, creative and clear. The creative muses flow and are present, in so many different areas of life.
